Cardiologist Questions Coronary Artery Disease

Should I be concerned about coronary artery disease?

I was diagnosed with coronary artery disease and my doctor wants me to start taking medications to treat it. However, I'm not experiencing any chest pain, shortness of breath, and other symptoms. Do I really need to be concerned?

Coronary artery disease is the cause of death for about half of humans. Please reduce your risk. If you smoke, STOP! If you are overweight, work on that. If your blood pressure or cholesterol are high, yes, take meds for those. If you have diabetes, it’s very very important to get that controlled. Exercise! There are many studies that show that reducing these risk factors can lengthen your life.
Heart disease is the silent killer. If you were actually diagnosed with coronary artery disease, you better take it very seriously...and be very concerned. The first symptom of serious heart disease in 50% of people is sudden death. There is no chest pain or shortness of breath. If a medication was prescribed, you probably need to take it.
