Plastic Surgeon Questions Plastic Surgery

Should I get a second opinion before plastic surgery?

I have selected the new nose shape I want and my doctor thinks that I should get a different shape. I see his point, but I don't know. Will another opinion help?

Yes of course. Mind you, we are not sculpting your nose from clay. We are sculpting it out of your own foundation. No two noses will ever look alike. If you have any further questions or inquiries please visit my website at Drroya.com. Good luck!
Cosmetic rhinoplasty surgery can improve the size and shape of your nose, however it is unrealistic to ask for a specifically shaped nose. I often times have to explain to patients requesting the exact same nose they have fallen in love with on a famous actress or actor. The general idea is to perhaps remove a bump on the nose or refine the nasal tip, however one never wishes to drastically change the shape of a nose to the point of absurdity. See Michael Jackson! Call anytime to schedule a virtual consultation to further discuss this matter if you so desire. Good luck.

Hi. There are certain norms that most plastic surgeons like to adhere to in terms of female aesthetics in western culture. It is your nose and you will be living with it for the rest of your life. Therefore you should be happy with what you get. You should be on the same page with your plastic surgeon. If what you are seeking is reasonable you should get as close to it as possible with what you have to start with. If on the other hand you are seeking something unusual a good plastic surgeon will not want to do that. It will depend On what you are looking for. A second opinion would probably be very helpful.
Surgery to alter your appearance should never be undertaken lightly; you will live with the results for the rest of your life, like it or not. Don't settle. Assuming what you want is reasonable and doable, you should seek a surgeon with whom you feel comfortable and the two of you should be on the same page with regards to your goals. some surgeons work hard to preserve ethnic features and tailor the surgery to the patients while others do the same operation over and over and all their results look similar. Make sure you know what kind of surgeon yours is. A good surgeon will tell you if your expectations are unrealistic and will fully inform you regarding the surgery, both the good and not so good aspects. Every plastic surgical procedures carries risks and the only guarantee any surgeon can make is that they will do their best on your behalf. Rhinoplasty has one of the highest revision rates (additional corrective surgery after the initial surgery) of any cosmetic procedure. It is difficult, demanding surgery and your surgeon should be well trained and experienced. You should see results of his or her work and be able to speak to former patients regarding their experience. Don't move forward until you are sure you are ready and all of your questions have been answered satisfactorily. I wish you well.
Sounds like you are unhappy with the opinion. Why go to a doctor who disagrees with you? Get another opinion -- if you still can't get what you want, then you need to decide who is correct -- the doctor or you.

I recommend it best to always get at least another opinion when considering rhinoplasty. This procedure can change the way you look and it will be permanent. It is important you are happy and comfortable with your doctor's recommendations and feel confident of his plan.

We encourage patients to get more than one opinion. Make sure that you are seeing Board Certified Plastic Surgeons or Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeons. Ask questions during the consultation. Bring photos of your desired result. I would suggest getting at least 3 opinions. Do not rush into surgery.
A second opinion is never a bad idea, but be sure that your surgeons are qualified and experienced. There may be a practical reason for your first doctor to suggest something different from what you had in mind, but it is your nose and face and you should usually have the "last word."

Absolutely. The most important thing you should do is see a board certified plastic surgeon by the American board of plastic surgery. If you are unsure seeking a second opinion is a great decision.
It is always a good idea to obtain a second (or even a third!) opinion before undergoing elective aesthetic surgery. Always seek out doctors who are board-certified in appropriate specialties by the American Board of Medical Specialties (for example plastic surgeons should actually be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery). That way you can be confident that you are getting an opinion from a properly trained specialist in the field, as opposed to an individual who has simply taken a weekend course and received a certificate from a bogus certification organization. Good luck with your search!
