OB-GYN (Obstetrician-Gynecologist) Questions Ultrasound

Should women get regular ultrasounds?

I know a lot of women do not get them regularly, but I wouldn't have known I had a tumor if it wasn't discovered by an ultrasound. Does it make sense to get them more often to prevent certain conditions.

The answer is it depends. Pelvic sono should be ordered if indicated and it may be required often depending on patient pathology and complaints. Pelvic sono does not prevent conditions per se , but is a study modality to assist clinicians in making diagnosis and to make management recommendations and decisions.
Highly controversial! We want to avoid false positives studies that may lead to unnecessary procedures. While pelvic exams are valuable and should be done, one can easily miss a pathology! Should it be a routine part of an annual exam? There are differing opinions. My position: One should have a low threshold to ordering an ultrasound of the pelvis as part of an exam, especially in postmenopausal women, overweight individuals, by also taking into consideration their personal and family histories.
Routine ultrasounds are not recommended unless you have any concerns. The only thing which is recommended is that you go for your annual exams to your gynecologist every year. Talk to your gynecologist today if you think you have any concerns or symptoms.

It is not mandatory to have it on regular basis. But sometimes it can be used as a screening in case your Gyn has any doubt.
