Pediatrician Questions Energy drinks

Should young children consume energy drinks?

My friend's son is 8 year old, and he drinks red bull regularly. I was really surprised because I felt that he was too young, but I didn't say anything. Should young children consume energy drinks? Is it safe?

I would not let my children drink energy drinks nor would I drink them myself
NO!!!!!!! They will cause your son's liver to bleed! Please help him understand that he is harming himself!
Absolutely not, those drinks are just sugar and usually caffeine or another xanthine. They are just as vicious or dangerous as caffeine. This is especially deleterious for kids. They don't need to grow up with a sense they need this or that to perk up. What they need is nutrition, self control, exercise, and responsibility.
No. Children even in their teen have wound up in the ER after consuming energy drinks with arrhythmias. B vitamin complex and adequate calorie diet is a much better option for energy. Make sure he is getting enough sleep.
