Dentist Questions Wisdom Tooth Extraction

After my tooth extraction, I have swelling in my face. Is it normal?

I had my wisdom tooth extracted over a day ago, and there's still a lot of swelling in my face. Is this normal? How long does it usually take to subside?

Some swelling is normal following removal of wisdom teeth. You can use cold packs, 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off. If it lasts more than a day or two, is getting worse or if there is pain, call your doctor immediately.

Swelling can last 3 to 4 days. If the teeth were infected, you should have been placed on an antibiotic.
Yes it is and it should have been approached at the time you had your surgery with post-operative instructions of what to expect to control swelling. Usually depending on the trauma that was involved by the estimation of your Dr, bed rest, cold compresses for contacting the skin to reduce the swelling, alternating with warm compresses to increase the circulation and possible anti-inflammatory medication as well as instructions how not to rinse vigorously so that clotting might occur effectively for a few days.
I would recommend ice pak to side of face and get on an antibiotic to reduce chance of infection. If swelling does not go down, please contact your dentist immediately.
Swelling is normal, should go away in about 3 days. If not, I would follow up with the dentist.
Yes that is normal. You had a tooth removed which can be traumatic for anyone. Take your antibiotic and pain meds as needed. Take is easy and ice your face to reduce the swelling.
This is not normal but a common complication. Go back to your dentist, you may need to be placed on a course of antibiotics.
This is a normal side effect of extraction. The body is creating an inflammatory response to fight off infection and promote healing. This typically lasts 4-5 days and will then begin to subside.
Hi there,
Yes it’s Normal to have some swelling after tooth extraction. You might notice some swelling for first 72 hours after extraction. After 3-4 days swelling will gradually subside. First few days apply cold packs on the extraction side 10 mins on and off , that will help in swelling.
Don’t forget your meds prescribed by your dentist.
Hope this helps. Feel better!
