Family Practitioner Questions Viral Infections

My husband is down with a viral infection. Can it pass on to my daughter?

My husband has a viral cough and cold with fever. I basically isolated him in our room while he recovers, but he still eats with us and my daughter. How can I prevent it from passing to my daughter?

A viral Illness, e.g., the common cold, is easily caught. Taking precautions is essential to protect oneself. Suggestion: Increase the child's vitamin C intake, frequent hand washing, wearing a mask, etc.
Viruses are spread very easily, so your daughter has already been exposed. If you just keep her immune system fortified and wash hands and clothes well, she will build up immunity to the virus.
Do not share utensils, and have your husband wear a surgical mask.
Always cough into the crook of your arm, everyone should wash with soap and water. Wiping down all surfaces with antiseptic wipes. No kisses and hugs until Dad is better.
