Pain Management Specialist Questions Fibromyalgia

What are the best treatments for fibromyalgia?

After switching doctors, multiple times, I'm finally diagnosed with fibromyalgia. We're trying to figure out the best course of treatment for me, but my doctor would rather have me try some lifestyle changes rather than actual medication. But, guess what? These changes aren't really working. Are there any medicinal treatments I can try? What are the bests ones to suggest to my doctor?

Lifestyle changes are definitely indicated. It is usually failing to fully comply with those changes that result in failure. There are medications like Lyrica which of been shown to help, but do not change the course of the disease or cause remission like lifestyle changes can. I would would recommend working with a naturopathic physician to verify the correct changes have been recommended.
There are 3 FDA approved pharmacological therapies. Lyrica, Savella, and Cymbalta. Each may provide some value under supervision.
Sorry to tell you this, but increasing aerobic activity levels has the best evidence in successfully treating fibromyalgia. Best of luck, but do take an active role in your treatment.
