What are the risks of chiropractic treatment for children?

My 14 year old is going to the chiropractor after a minor car accident. What are the risks of chiropractic treatment for children?

None, unless there is disease present, not known to the doctor.
In our office we use an adjusting instrument that is safe and effective for literally all ages. The risk for that is close to zero. The traditional ‘cracking’ adjustments are also very safe but I always lean towards the instrument as a lot of times kids (or anyone for that matter) are hesitant to receive the ‘cracking’ adjustments.
Chiropractic is great for all ages from new born and up. Everyone should seek some degree of treatment from a car accident. This care all depends on what the exam and history present with.
Chiropratic care is great for kids, I see them every day. Contrary to popular belief there is very little risk for anyone to see the chiropractor. The only true symptoms anyone may see are soreness after adjusting(this is normal and expected) and getting better overall over time..
There are similar risks as with an adult patient. A trained Chiropractor will take into consideration their age and adjust accordingly. There are also Chiropractors that specialize in pediatric patients. Overall, care is very safe and can be very effective.
Every person who seeks Chiropractic care is always subject to some type of risk, however, that also depends on the vigilance and competency of the practitioner. These risk can be minimized or marginalized by strictly adhering to a few very important principles. One, no procedure should be entertained or performed if it could pose a harm to the child in anyway. Two, no procedure should be entertained or performed if it could possibly stunt the growth of a child. Three, all procedures must adhere to the strict protocols and guidelines of pediatric adjustment/manipulation. If the practitioner, then he/she must refer to a practitioner who has the competency and experience in treating children. I hope this helps in answering your question.

Thank you for your question
Your child can have some soreness, but usually the results are very positive
Minimal!
Firstly, I want to commend you for taking your child to get evaluated by a chiropractor even after a "minor" car accident. It is always better to err on the side of caution when dealing with car accidents, especially when a still-growing/developing child is involved. With that being said, the risks of Chiropractic treatment for your 14 year old is the same as it would be with you; very low. Chiropractors treat people from all age groups. Technique and treatment protocols may be different from 6lb baby versus a 140lb adult, but the safety (and efficacy) of treatment is the same. Best of luck to you and your child.
Any risk of an adverse reaction from an adjustment is extremely low and minor if they occur. I recommend getting X-rays taken of your child's neck to be sure no serious unseen injury occurred from the accident.
The beauty of chiropractic is that it is great for all ages. There would be no risks as long as there is no fracture or other serious injury. Chiropractic helps give function back to the nervous system, taking stress off nerves so that the body and perform at its best.
