What can a dermatologist prescribe for hair loss?

I am a 40 year old female and I have hair loss. What can a dermatologist prescribe for hair loss?

Dermatologists have a variety of oral and topical medications to prescribe for what I am presuming here to be female pattern hair loss. Most start with topical minoxidil solution in varying concentrations to which compounded topical finasteride solution may be added. Topical azelaic acid may also prove helpful. The oral use of minoxidil and spironolactone may prove helpful. Some products are commercially available; others need to be compounded at special compounding pharmacies. And all need to be used under the strict supervision and follow-up of the doctor.
There are many treatments available now for hair loss. There are oral supplements and topical prescriptions available. Some doctors are doing PRP in addition to hair transplants.
