Ear-Nose and Throat Doctor (ENT) Questions Ear ache

What can be the cause of my earache?

I'm 23 and yesterday I suddenly develop an earache in my right ear and the pains are like shooting. Do you think I should go to the doctor?

There are many possible causes of an earache, so if the pain is very severe, you will need a doctor to properly diagnose and treat this. Sharp, shooting pains in one ear are often from temporal-mandibular joint pain and can be treated with a soft diet and ibuprofen. Nevertheless, if it persists, a trip to the doctor will be necessary.

Your acute symptom is usually associated with Eustachian tube dysfunction. Other causes could be TMJ, cervical spinal sensory nerve irritation.
