Massage Therapist Questions Pain

What can I do for my shoulder and neck pain?

I'm not really sure how it happened, but my upper back on my right side is hurting me. It extends to the side of my neck and the pain is making it really hard for me to concentrate. It's been happening these past couple of days. Is there anything I can do to treat it?

Something has caused this. Were you doing anything strenuous like putting up window screens, painting a room, lifting heavy objects over your head (using the right arm and hand to do so)? Massage will help with releasing the pain. Chiropractic care can alleviate if you’re out of alignment along the spine, as a result of the activity that is connected to the pain.
I highly suggest you go see a chiropractor that has a massage therapist or see a PT and get evaluated. There are so many things it could be and depends on what is actually going on to recommend how to treat your issue. Good Luck!
Unfortunately, there is no good answer until a examination. There are many reasons for such pain - from simply sleeping on it wrong to have a serious abdominal problem. If it continues go see your healthcare provider.
Try putting a very warm wet towel around your neck for 5 minutes then gently stretch your neck in all positions, forward back and side to side.
You should be evaluated by a licensed physician (DO or MD) who can rule out any neurologic problems through a history, physical exam, and any necessary labs or imaging studies. Osteopathic treatment would likely be a good option for normalizing neuromusculoskeletal imbalances to reduce your pain and improve the function of your body.

Yes it's probably a tight muscle or a muscle you tweaked wrong. Massage therapy would help as well as heat and ice on it. 20 minutes on 20 minutes off
