My 11 year old son has knee pain but doesn't play sports. What causes knee pain in children?

Growth.
Sometimes it is just active growth at the growth plates. If it is where with kneecap attaches this is called Osgood Slater disease and can improve with banding. If there is swelling of the joint he would need further testing immediately
