Pediatrician Questions Pediatrics

What can i do if my child gets sick on a weekend?

I have a baby who is just 2 months old. I have been worrying sick about what I should do if at all my baby falls sick on a weekend, and the doctors are not accessible? Is hospital the only alternative or are there any doctors accessible on call even on weekends?

Most areas have after hours clinic or call centers for triage. It is best to avoid the ER unless there is a true emergency due to exposure to other illnesses.
Usually, there is a doctor who covers the doctor. If not, then call the urgent clinic.
No they can call their PCP to be seen in the office on the weekend
Most pediatric practices have a doctor or nurse practitioner on call after hours. Many practices, including ours, have Saturday hours and some larger groups are even in their offices on Sunday. Don't get upset in advance, speak to your doctor or the office manager.
Unfortunately, babies get sick at all times. Ask your pediatrician about what to do for after hour illnesses. Your pediatrician will likely have an answering service staffed by nurses to help you or he will take your call himself. If your child needs to be seen, some doctors do meet their patients at the office even on weekends. Some cities have urgent care clinics for evening and weekend illnesses that do not requires the ER. Some cities even have pediatric urgent care clinics, so try googling to see if your city offers any and what their hours are.
A two month old baby may be very difficult to diagnose. They can also deteriorate quickly so it's important to see a doctor.
You need to take his temperature and if it is elevated above 37.5C he needs to be seen in hospital in order to find the cause of his fever. He then needs antibiotics until tha cause is found; this is until the age of 3 months after which thing are a little less urgent. He also needs to be seen in hospital if he is vomitng or passing significantly less urine than usual.
Otherwise the baby can be seen in a medical centre; you can usually find one open in whatever area you live in. If there is no local GP open take him to hospital.
I hope this helps
