Endocrinology-Diabetes Questions Weight Loss Medication

What is the best weight loss pill for metabolic syndrome?

I've heard so many things about weight loss pills and their uses. I have metabolic syndrome, and gain a lot of weight as a result. I feel like I can't lose any of my weight regardless of dieting. I want to try weight loss pills, I think they could help. Which one is the safest?

Having Metabolic syndrome, suggest that you have insulin resistance, ask your Doctor to prescribe you metformin.
There is none. A promising medication by Eli Lilly is in research now. There is 100 percent weight gain when any pill is stopped. Any method of weight loss has to be for life because if you stop any method, whichever - carb-free, keto, fasting, greenberry, or hypnosis - when it stops, the weight comes back 90% of the time. I have been at it for 35 years and have tried every method conceivable for weight loss and the best method by far in those who don't have neurochemical issues is the gastric bypass for significant weight problems. To lose weight is very difficult, and my heart goes out to you with those inefficient metabolisms.

The best weight management medication for someone with Metabolic syndrome would be one that actually treats insulin resistance, like Saxenda. (Belviq also used to help with insulin resistance, but it was taken off the market.) That being said, any weight loss is better than none when it comes to Metabolic Syndrome, so if all you can afford is phentermine, that’s better than nothing (as long as your heart is healthy enough to use it.)
Obesity medicine has changed dramatically in the last years. Meaning we have many and safe options. Please see a endocrinologist or obesity medicine specialist to discuss your history and decide what weight loss medication is best for you. There are many factors to consider when choosing a weight loss medication. Such as age, wanting pregnancy or not, reason for the weight gain and if any other health problems are present.
This is difficult to answer as each person is different & responds differently to various medicines. The best medicine is to consult your physician since they know you best. There are multiple drugs out there & they all work differently. Some suppress appetite, some prevent digestion & absorption of food & some slow stomach emptying. What would work best for you I can't say. Consult your physician or an obesity specialist & get the one that works well for you. You may have to try trial & error. All of them have side effects so take them only on advice of the physician so they can monitor your progress & side effects. A good wt. loss program combining diet counciling & exercise is the YMCA. If you have a Y consult them. It is effective & cheap.
