What is light therapy for depression?

I am a 17 year old male and I have depression. I heard about light therapy. What is light therapy for depression?

Yes, great question!!! Light therapy does work, but you have to do it more often, several times a week for it to be effective. It is more effective for seasonal form of depression.

It is the use of a light box that produces 10,000 LUX of natural light early in the morning for 30-60 minutes focused on your forehead. It has been shown to help both seasonal depression and general depression. Getting outside into sunlight is also very beneficial as an antidepressant.
Main indication for light therapy is the treatment of Seasonal Affective Disorder. However, in clinical practice there is anecdotal evidence that it may also be beneficial for patients with major depressive disorder who get more severe symptoms in fall and winter months.
