There are various groups of antibiotics to treat an ear infection depending on what kind of ear infection it is. They can be drops or oral medication. An ear infection needs to be visualized and diagnosed by a trained pediatric provider so the appropriate medication can be prescribed. Too many ear infections in a short time period may warrant the need for ear tubes. So ear infections must definitely be treated by a professional.
I would recommend consulting his pediatrician. Most commonly prescribed antibiotics for ear infections are penicillin group of medicines.
High dose amoxicillin is the gold standard for an ear infection.
Tylenol or Ibuprofen temporary for pain. Depends of the age of your son and associated symptoms. Also depends on if it's middle ear infection or ear canal infection. Please consult a doctor.
Thank you for the question. If your child is around school age, is otherwise well-meaning no fever or severe pain from the ear or throat or discharge from the ear, some studies have suggested watchful waiting with pain control using acetaminophen or ibuprofen. If your child is younger or has a high fever or in a lot of pain then they need to be evaluated. The antibiotic choice will depend on known allergies' recent antibiotic use as well.

I hope this helps.
