Swollen gums can be caused may by many different ailments if your mouth. If the swelling persists or produces blood or pus when touched, I would advise that you make an appointment with a dentist very soon.

If it is minor swelling general swelling, it is likely gingivitis or periodontitis. An anti-bacteria mouthwash may help, but likely you are due for a professional dental cleaning and should make an appointment.

If the swelling is localized, it may be a tooth, gum and/or bone issue that will need to be diagnosed by a dentist.

Thank you for your question.
Hi!

Treatment for this would depend on the diagnosis, and what kind of swelling you are experiencing, if it is due to just inflammation of the gingiva or if its also advanced into periodontal inflammation and bone loss. Fastest way would be to have a professional cleaning, and continue flossing and brushing in a way that your gums are always cleaned at the gum line. Warm salt water rinses would also help with the healing process. Usually, the swelling is more than likely due to plaque or calculus (or bacterial debris) at the gum line, causing irritation and inflammatory process to occur.
Hope this helps!
First of all it need to be determined what is the reason for swollen gums. Only after that, the course of actions can be determined. It could be as simple as just to have your dental cleaning done. There are some drugs that can cause swollen gums.
If that is your case you would already know about it, and would not be asking this question.
Swollen gums are usually the result of infections. They can be made worse by uncontrolled diabetes. If that is your case, you must control your diabetes.
The most important thing about gum health is extreme 360 degree cleanliness around every tooth.
First, you need to see a dentist to find out why your gums are swollen. Causes can range from tartar trapped below the gum line due to a lack of flossing and a need for a professional cleaning to leukemia. Depending upon the cause consequences of not treating would range from losing your teeth to losing your life. Preventive dentistry really works to save you money and protect your health, but you absolutely need to see a dentist regularly.
