“What is the fastest way to recover from eyelid surgery?”
I am a 32 year old female and I will have eyelid surgery. What is the fastest way to recover from eyelid surgery?

Sleeping elevated after surgery allows swelling to drain away from the eyes and face. Applying cold compresses for the first 48 hours reduces the bruising and swelling around the eyes. Being in a good state of nutrition including the use of vitamin C complex with bioflavonoids may reduce bruising. Protein is important in the healing process so a good nutritional state before during and after your surgery helps with faster healing. The most important and most profound benefit however comes from the use of decadron administered intravenously at the onset of surgery. This dramatically reduces bruising and swelling and reduces the time it takes to look good following island plastic.
Head elevated to 45 degrees and iced gauze on the eyes every 30-60 minutes for the first day. Then continue elevation for one week until sutures are removed.
The fastest way to recover is to have a gentle eyelid surgeon. I find ice compresses help modestly and only for the first day. The upper lid should never be bruised , but does remain puffy for approximately 1 week. Blinking helps with swelling. Lower lid, almost never swell. No matter how bloodless I operate, there is almost modest bruising at the cheeks, coverable with makeup.
Recovery from eyelid surgery is usually pretty quick and uneventful, but it can be hastened somewhat using ice packs and elevating your head religiously for the first 48 hours. This greatly helps reducing swelling and bruising afterwards.
Good luck.
Good luck.
The best way to recover from an eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is to listen to the instructions your surgeon has given you. But in general, these instructions would include resting your eyes, not rubbing or scrubbing your eyelids, not lifting anything heavy and not doing any strenuous activities. I recommend that my patients sleep with their heads elevated so that there is less swelling and bruising. I usually have them put a washcloth that has been dipped in ice bath over their eyes for the first 2 days. I have them avoid taking any medication that would cause increased bleeding and bruising (Such as ibuprofen, garlic, vitamin E,...). Finally, I usually have them take arnica a few days before until a week after surgery. When they do this, most of my patients are able to return to normal function 7 days after surgery.
The fastest way to recover from any surgery is to make sure that you understand your pre-op and post-op instructions thoroughly and then follow them. For eyelid surgery it is imperative to refrain from taking any potential blood thinning agents before and after your surgery for 2 weeks on either side of your operation unless there are special circumstances. Another key to success that works for my patients is the use of cool compression masks to be used as much as possible in the first few days after surgery.
Follow your doctor's orders. Keep your head elevated, no unnecessary activity, dressings on, and you should be OK. If there is anything unusual happening, call your doctor immediately.
Best is to ask your surgeon. In general, elevation of your back, cold packs for the first 48 hours; arnica/bromolein combination may be of help also if started 3-4 days before and continued after surgery. Good luck with your upcoming blepharoplasty.
Your overall health is the #1 factor with respect to how quickly he will recover. This is an excellent question to ask your physician. In my opinion, I would ask you to: Abstain from alcohol, stopped all vitamins and supplements, and start a regimen of Arnica and bromelain to minimize bruising and swelling.
