Usually penicillin or amoxicillin is the drug of choice, unless your child has a penicillin allergy.
Amoxicillin is the treatment of choice for strep throat.
Penicillin is the recommended treatment for strep throat. Correct and complete treatment is important to prevent the complications such as rheumatic fever and post-strep glomerulonephritis.
Usually penicillin or one of it derivatives. You want an antibiotic that will kill the bacteria instead of just suppress the growth.
