What type of anesthesia is used for herniated disc surgery?

I am a 43 year old female who will be having herniated disc surgery. What type of anesthesia is used for herniated disc surgery?

General endotracheal anesthesia with narcotics and gases.
Most anesthesia for a herniated disc whether in the cervical or lumbar region is typically general anesthesia if having a fusion or other complex procedures. This may differ with some type of less invasive procedures, so check with your surgeon and anesthesiologist so that you have a good plan for the surgery anticipated.
Most neck and back herniated disc surgeries are done using general anesthesia. There are some that can be done with local anesthesia and minimal sedation. Those are usually for the one inch incision or no incision needed type of surgeries—-percutaneous discectomies.
