What will happen at my bypass surgery consultation?

I'm a 52-year-old man in the process of taking the necessary steps toward getting bypass surgery. What will happen at my bypass surgery consultation?

The surgeon will want to get your history and talk with you and do a physical exam
The surgeon will evaluate your medical history, physical exam, labs, and test results. He will discuss the coronary bypass operation with you including the details of the procedure, the risks, and what to expect post-op and after discharge to home. They will answer any questions you or your family may have.
Everyone is different and bedside manners vary. Having said that, it is likely your surgeon will describe the risks of the procedure, how long the surgery should take, how long you will likely remain in the hospital, what your recovery and rehabilitation will be like, when you will be allowed to drive again and when you can return to work. If he does not provide this information, then ask him these questions directly.
Talk to your surgeon. All symptoms & past history should be thoughtfully evaluated.
