Cardiologist Questions Echocardiogram (Ultrasound)

What's the difference between an echocardiogram and EKG?

My doctor scheduled me for an echocardiogram instead of an EKG. I always thought they were the same test, but my wife says that they're different. What's the difference?

Echo is ultrasound doppler study, gives a picture of heart, much more info than ECG.
Echocardiogram is an ultrasound of the heart to access heart muscle function, the valves of the heart and any abnormalities around the heart. While EKG looks mainly at the conduction (electrical) abnormalities of the heart.
