Proctologist Questions Colonoscopy

When do you need a colonoscopy?

Colon cancer runs in my family, so I know I have to get screened regularly. At what age should I start getting a colonoscopy?

Depending on who in your family had colon cancer typically the recommendation is to start at 40 or 10 years younger than the first degree relative that had the diagnosis which ever comes first.
If you have a fist degree relative, i.e. father, mother, sister, brother, children, then you should be screened at age 40 or 10 years before the age the index relative was found to have colonic polyps or cancer.
