When should I see a geriatrician?

I am 81 years old and healthy. I am able to exercise every day. Should I be seeing a geriatrician?

No specific age. Depends on general physical health but especially mental health. Not just for behavior problems but also memory problems . It is not unusual that a "simple" urinary tract infection ( UTI) can cause mental status changes
.
There's a difference between physiologic age and chronologic age. If you feel your needs are being met, you don't need memory care, special attention to age related diagnoses (parkinson's, alzheimer's, sleep disorders, dementia) then there's no reason to change what you are doing.
Yes
There is no reason to see a geriatrician. Just enjoy healthy life and go to your primary care doctor every 6 months, if you do not have problems.
Yes at 81 years old, you should be seeing a Geriatrician at least once every 6 months for check ups.
You certainly can, geriatricians are very good at keeping you healthy.
Only if you have memory problems or other complaints

A
Everybody needs to be seen at least by a primary physician and do a regular check-up.
continue to maintain your healthy diet and exercise program and visit your primary care physician yearly for your yearly wellness exam
As a Geriatrician I am biased and inclined to say yes because I'd probably love to have you as my patient. But truthfully the answer is no, you should be fine with your family doc or Internist. There are not many Geriatricians out there and it sounds like you are doing great. Things you should be weary of are changes in your own cognition (then ask for a memory screen), medication interactions, or if you suddenly find yourself unable to exercise every day like you do. But of course, if you have access to a Geriatrician, then go for it! But it's not necessary.
yes come to Dr Jalil
Should see some MD (family practice or geriatrician) for routine health issues.
If you don't have any condition, probably you can be seen by your primary physician mainly.
Continued follow-up with your long term internist is more than adequate.
You need to see internist once a yr for complete physical exam
Thank you for asking this question. It is an important consideration.

First, realize that Geriatricians are Internal Medicine Physicians who have additional and focused training and ongoing education in the care of persons over the age of 65 years old.

A Geriatrician can discern and can assess the special needs of an older person - and manage them expertly.
Hello, my suggestion is that you still need to see a family doctor, internal medicine doctor, or a Geriatrician atleast every 6 months for check-up and follow-up care. There could be lots of things going on with you that you might not feel. For instance, high blood pressure is very common in the elderly population, but can be asymptomatic. Over time, it can cause real consequences and even death. Hope that answers you question.
