BMI 35 and above with comorbidities.
When you have made serious attempts at non surgical weight loss and the loss has failed or recurred. Bariatric surgeons have strict criteria that must be met prior to scheduling surgery for weight loss and this includes documentation of attempts at conventional weight loss methods.
Hello,

There there are some different things to consider here. First off, remember that with weight loss surgery you still have to go on a diet. If you are having difficulties with your sugars and are pre-diabetic because of your weight, yes, have surgery. If you are on bi-pap or have other breathing issues because of your weight, have surgery. If you are having problems with joint pain and arthritis pain. Each insurance plan has a different weight expressed as a BMI that qualifies for surgery, check your policy and then ark your primary MD and let them advise you on how to proceed.
The requirements for weight loss surgery are
1. BMI >40
2. BMI 35-40 with evidence of metabolic disease (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, sleep apnea, diabetes).

You can Google "BMI Calculator" and type in your height and weight to figure out your BMI.
