OB-GYN (Obstetrician-Gynecologist) Questions Menstruation

Why am I unable to regulate my menstrual cycle?

I'm a 22-year-old woman and my period is irregular. I start bleeding before I am supposed to get my period (sometimes a week) and it ends at varying times (sometimes 4 days, other days 8 days). Why am I unable to regulate my menstrual cycle?

Regulation of your menses is not self dependent or self will. It is entirely a physiologic process. It may be hormonally related. Discuss this with your pcp/obgyn and may check your hormones especially thyroid.
Menstrual cycle length could vary every month by 7 days (plus or minus). Length of cycles vary, too, 3-7 days. If you are bleeding excessively, please consult your OBGyn.
Take care!
