Pediatrician Questions Dry Eye

Why are my son's eyes dry?

My son is only 6 years old and his eyes are really dry? This has been happening for far too long, like a week and a half, and I'm unsure if I should take him to a doctor or what. What causes a kid to have dry eyes?

Dry eye in children is an extremely rare entity and is usually associated to autoimmune disorders. Most children with suspected dry eyes have allergic conjunctivitis. If your child has dry eyes, he needs a complete ophthalmological evaluation by a pediatric ophthalmologist.
Take him to an ophthalmologist. Maybe he has closed tear ducts.
This is unusual. See your doctor to have a proper diagnosis
Is he taking antihistamine such as benadryl zyrtec or claritin? Has he been exposed to allergens such as dust, open fire, or respiratory irritants? Has he been staring at blue screens for prolonged periods of time? If any of these is yes avoid exposure of a week and see if dry eyes go away.
