Why is my period blood brown for 3 days?

I am a 22 year old female. My period blood has been brown for 3 days. What could be the cause?

Brown blood is always a sign of very little bleeding. By the time blood reached the pad, it has already disintegrated to its breakdown product, which is brown, and the rest of the full flow bleed is about to start. Some menstrual cycles start with brown bleeding, some end with brownish.
Hello and thank you for your question.

Brown blood is oxidized blood meaning old blood. This blood was likely in your vagina during your period and with gravity is slowly working its way out of the vagina and because it is not the result of active bleeding we see it as brown as it oxidizes. There could also be tissue from the lining of your uterus that is shed during menses mixed in with the blood that helps make the color brown as well.

Hope this helps.

Brown blood is just blood that has stayed in your uterus long enough to turn brown. In other words, it is just older blood. It is not uncommon to have brown blood towards the end of your period.
It depends on when in the period the brown color appears. Please schedule an appointment with your gynecologist to be examined.
Sometimes before your cycle actually starts, you can have dark brown discharge. Your menstrual cycle is the lining of your uterus shedding when you haven't gotten pregnant that month. It's a normal process.
