Ear-Nose and Throat Doctor (ENT) Questions Ear Infections

Why would son need adenoid glands removed?

My son is 8 year old. His doctor says that if he has another ear infection, he may need to have his adenoid glands removed because he gets ear infections often. How would this removal help him?

Adenoid hypertrophy can result in lymphatic obstruction go the Eustachian tube area, poor lymphatic drainage, persistent middle ear fluid, recurring or chronic middle ear infection. Adenoidectomy frequently performed for chronic middle ear effusion, along with PE tube insertion.
The adenoids can block the drainage of the eustachian tube of the ear and cause recurrent infection. When children are this old and having recurrent ear problems this is usually the next procedure to help eliminate the problem
