This may surprise many, but women of high socioeconomic status have a higher rate of getting breast cancer than others. With that being said, once diagnosed wealthier women have a lower rate of recurrence than those in lower social brackets due to earlier detection and access to treatment. Long Island women tend to be more educated and higher earners than woman from other parts of the country which would explain the higher incidence of breast cancer.
