What Is Azo-Gesic?

Azo-Gesic is a pain reliever that affects the lower part of your urinary tract (bladder and urethra). Azo-Gesic is used to treat urinary symptoms such as pain or burning, increased urination, and increased urge to urinate. These symptoms can be caused by infection, injury, surgery, catheter, or other conditions that irritate the bladder. Azo-Gesic will treat urinary symptoms, but this medication will not treat a urinary tract infection. Take any antibiotic that your doctor prescribes to treat an infection.

Uses

This medication is used to relieve symptoms caused by irritation of the urinary tract such as pain, burning, and the feeling of needing to urinate urgently or frequently. This drug does not treat the cause of the urinary irritation, but it can help relieve the symptoms while other treatments take effect.

How should I use this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Take after meals. Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not skip doses or stop your medicine early even if you feel better. Do not stop taking except on your doctor's advice. Talk to your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.

Side Effects

Headache, dizziness, or stomach upset may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.If your doctor has directed you to use this medication, remember that he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication donot have serious side effects.

Tell your doctor right away if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur: yellowing skin/eyes, dark urine, signs of kidney problems, stomach/abdominal pain, vomiting, fever, chills, easy bruising/bleeding, unusual tiredness, shortness of breath, fast heartbeat, seizures.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

What should I watch for while using this medicine?

Tell your doctor or health care professional if your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse. This medicine colors body fluids red. This effect is harmless and will go away after you are done taking the medicine. It will change urine to a dark orange or red color. The red color may stain clothing. Soft contact lenses may become permanently stained. It is best not to wear soft contact lenses while taking this medicine. If you are diabetic you may get a false positive result for sugar in your urine. Talk to your health care provider.

Overdose

If someone has overdosed and has serious symptoms such as passing out or trouble breathing, call 911. Otherwise, call a poison control center right away. Symptoms of overdose may include unusual tiredness, skin color changes, change in the amount of urine, shortness of breath, fast heartbeat, yellowing skin/eyes, easy bleeding/bruising, or seizures.

Keep out of the reach of children. Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Protect from light and moisture. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
