Home Remedies for Measles

  • Turmeric and tamarind seeds: These have been considered to be very much effective for treating measles at home. Turmeric has antiseptic as well as antioxidant properties hence termed as very much effective in reducing the measles symptoms. Add around one tablespoon of turmeric powder and honey to a glass of warm water. Drink this mixture twice on a daily basis. You can also grind few amount of tamarind seeds as well as the turmeric root and consume the mixture in a dose of 300 to 400 grams on a daily basis.
  • Margosa leaves: These leaves are known to have some excellent antiseptic as well as antiviral properties which makes it very much effective in getting the measles cured. They can be added to hot bathing water for providing relief from itching which comes along with the rash. The patient should stay in the water for at least 20 minutes to get better results.
  • Garlic: Garlic is also considered to be an effective treatment since it has some amazing properties for curing measles. You can powder few cloves of garlic and mix them with honey. This can be consumed on a daily basis for better results.
  • Lemon juice: Mix some lemon juice along with water and it can help to remove measles. Take around 10 to 15ml of lemon juice and mix with water. Consume it on a daily basis.
  • Bitter gourd leaves: When bitter gourd leaves are combined with honey or turmeric powder then can work pretty well to provide relief from measles. Bitter gourd is known to contain strong antioxidant properties thereby making it helpful to fight many of the measles symptoms. It also contains Vitamin C, Iron, Zinc, dietary fibre and potassium. These are very much required for boosting the immunity as well as speeding up the healing process. You can extract the juice from one of the freshly bought bitter gourd and mix one tablespoon of this juice along with one teaspoon of honey and one half teaspoon of turmeric powder. Consume this mixture two times in a day for around two to three weeks.
  • Coconut water: The coconut water is known to contain cooling properties and it also has abundant amount of sugar as well as nutrients which are known to play an important role in cleansing the entire system from any kind of toxic substance. Drink plenty of coconut water on a daily basis until you completely recover. Coconut water would keep the body hydrated and also it would save you from any kind of fatigue issues due to loss of energy.
  • Indian gooseberry: The powder of Indian gooseberry would help to improve the case of itching or burning caused due to measles. It is an excellent source of Vitamin C which helps to enhance the immune system. It is also rich in antioxidants hence effective enough for treating measles. You can mix one tablespoon of amla juice along with one and half cup of water and drink it twice for a month’s time. It would help in getting rid of the itching as well as the burning sensation caused due to measles.
  • Barley: This is yet another effective home remedy for treating coughs which are mostly linked with measles. Barley turns out to be extremely effective for those experiencing symptoms of skin irritation and itching. Barley is known to be loaded with Vitamin C, minerals and antioxidants. Also barley is considered to be a rich source of zinc which is known to speed up the healing process in an individual. You can mix a cup of barley in three cups of water, now bring this mixture to boil and simmer it on low heat. This should be carried out until the water reduces to half. Now let this mixture cool and strain it. You can add sugar or salt as per taste. Consume two to three glasses on this mixture for at least a month.
  • Getting ample amount of rest: For those suffering from measles should ensure to get ample amount of rest and also avoid carrying out any kind of busy or straining activities which can further worsen the condition.
  • Increase fluid intake: It becomes important to keep oneself hydrated at all times. Hence drink plenty of water, fruit juices, herbal tea for compensating any fluids which have been lost due to sweating or fever.
