Helping others with their own battle

Helping others with their own battle

It had been 19 years since Marilyn had been breast cancer free, but her fight against the disease was not over. Marilyn made it her mission to help others suffering from the disease, and in doing so proved how invaluable survivors can be in getting new patients through the horrible experience that is a breast cancer diagnosis.

Marilyn co-facilitates two different groups in her area, one for educational information on breast cancer and one for newly diagnosed women. She says she is responsible for ensuring new members are partnered up. She says that by having someone else who is going through a similar experience, patients tend to have a stronger support system which greatly improves their perspective. She also calls each and every member frequently to check on their progress and their daily lives. Such selfless actions show that even after winning the fight against breast cancer, you can still have a huge impact on others who are suffering from the disease. Read more about Marilyn's story here.
