Congratulations to These Ovarian Cancer Heroes!

Carolyn Berson - Nurse Navigator

Carolyn Berson has been working in the field of oncology nursing for over 30 years. She serves as a liaison between the healthcare team and the patient - from the time of their diagnosis and all throughout their care. For the past 11 years, Berson has worked as a nurse navigator for the Gynecologic Oncology program at John Muir Health, educating patients and their families on symptom management and quality of life.

It was Berson’s patient, Tamar Vered, who nominated her for the award. Vered, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the age of 48, stated that Berson played an invaluable role in her life. “If it weren’t for Carolyn, I wouldn’t be where I am today, with a positive outlook, well-educated regarding the disease and with an organized approach to tackle and continue to fight what has been the toughest time of my life,” she said.
