FDA Approves Historic First At-Home Breast Cancer Genetic Test

Once a customer orders a test, everything is sent directly to the home

The price of the genetic test for both ancestry and health-related components is $199. Upon ordering the test, 23andMe sends out a test kit directly to the consumer’s home. The test kit consists of a saliva collection tube, which needs to be sent back to the company for further analysis. After analyzing the saliva sample, 23andME generates various reports, including information relating to the consumer’s ancestors, as well as information relating to the consumer’s health risks, such as BRCA risk. “We believe people should have the choice to access their genetic information, and that’s always been core to our mission,” said Watson.
