Immunotherapy's Great Potential for Ovarian Cancer

A low response rate is not bad news

In ovarian cancer, the response rates of immunotherapy range between 12-15%. While this is a low response rate, it is certainly worth investigating into because studies suggest that patients with ovarian cancer are different. The biology of their tumor differs from that of other cancer types. Immunotherapy in combination with other forms of treatment could have the potential to introduce new safe and effective standards of treatment that will not only increase the number of patients cured of ovarian cancer, but perhaps also increase the number of patients whose cancer does not come back. Additionally, immunotherapy is showing great potential not just for ovarian cancer, but also for other types of cancer such as melanoma, lung cancer, kidney cancer, and Hodgkin lymphoma.
