Genetics are also playing a huge role by changing the face of breast cancer prevention, detection, and treatment. Monica was able to undergo genetic testing, that when negative, gave her peace of mind that she was not going to be passing certain known mutations that increase breast cancer risk to her own daughter. Reconstructive surgery is also now covered by insurance, whereas in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, it was not.
