Ovarian Cancer News: Johnson & Johnson in Court Again

On August 22, 2017, a Los Angeles jury awarded $417 million in damages to a woman who stated she’d developed ovarian cancer because of using Johnson’s Baby Powder as a feminine hygiene product. Eva Echeverria, 63, a former medical receptionist, started using the powder on her perineal area at age 11. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2007 and continued to use the talcum powder until last year when she heard about a possible connection between its use for feminine hygiene and the development of ovarian cancer.

Ms. Echeverria, now terminally ill, was unable to appear in court but videotaped her deposition as court evidence. Her attorney, Mark Robinson, says Ms. Echeverria “wanted to warn women” about the risk and said, “She told me ‘I’m not doing this for myself’. She knows she’s going to die. She’s doing this for other women.”
