The research team then tested the model in another group of 44 women and once the accuracy of the model was confirmed, they went on to test the model across several patient sample sets. They found the results showed almost 100% accuracy and the team went on to put their final model into practice in 51 patients. In this sample group, the results showed 91.3% of accuracy for ovarian cancer – a very low false positive rate. “The key is that this test is very unlikely to misdiagnose ovarian cancer and give a positive signal when there is no malignant tumor. This is the hallmark of an effective diagnostic test,” said Chowdhury.
