Cigarettes are known to result in an increased risk for a mucinous epithelial type of ovarian cancer. This has been confirmed in multiple studies.

In a study published by the American Society of Cancer Research, smokers had lower survival rates of ovarian cancer. Ex-smokers had higher survival rates than current smokers, with higher rates in ratio to being smoke-free for a greater length of time.
