The Impact of Celiac Disease on the Menstrual Cycle

What to watch for in addition to irregular periods

One important factor to remember is that irregular periods, in and of themselves, are not a sure sign of celiac disease. There would be other health issues present. If a woman is having trouble with her periods and might suspect that celiac disease could be a related factor, then these are some signs that she should look out for:

  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Abdominal bloating and pain
  • Flatulence
  • Steatorrhea
  • Heartburn
  • Indigestion
  • Chest pain
  • Joint pain
  • Skin rashes
  • Malnutrition
  • Profound weight loss or gain

Also, these symptoms might accompany infertility due to the disrupted menstrual cycle.
