Modern medicine is evolving at a rapid pace. The more knowledge and research techniques develop, the more options become available for treatment of cancer patients. Genetic testing has become increasingly accessible and common, and its uses seem to be ever expanding. While identifying patients who are at a high risk for developing cancer is certainly not the only use of genetic tests, it could be one of the most important. Despite the benefits of genetic testing, especially considering its low costs, the data suggests that too few women at risk for developing ovarian or breast cancer are discussing this option with their medical providers.
