For many genetic tests that are used, patients just have to provide some sample of their own genetic material for observation. This can usually be something as easy to attain as a cotton swab rubbed around the inside of your mouth to collect your saliva. From there, researchers use the sample to break down your genetic code into its smaller parts and then read those parts for any hidden information they may offer. When researchers look at an individual’s genetic roots they can then predict what diseases a patient may or may not be at risk for based on what they’ve found.
