In Historic First, Woman Is Cured of Stage 4 Breast Cancer

Full-scale clinical trials are underway

Although Perkins’s case is the first and only successful case of immunotherapy against advanced stage cancer to date, healthcare professionals are optimistic that the groundbreaking therapy could be the beginning of a revolutionary approach in life-saving cancer therapies. Currently, the U.S. National Cancer Institute is preparing to perform full-scale clinical trials in order to determine the effectiveness of the immunotherapy as a promising and viable cure for cancer. “This fascinating and exciting study in a single breast cancer patient provides a major ‘proof-of-principle’ step forward, in showing how the power of the immune system can be harnessed to attack even the most difficult-to-treat cancer,” stated the Institute of Cancer Research.
