Why a children's hospital?

Trina's story is one of many that tell of young adults being treated at children's hospitals. The Children's Adolescent and Young Adult cancer program, or AYA, is actually designed to specifically for treating patients between age 15 and 30. It's been shown in various studies that teenagers and young adults who have certain types of cancer come out with better results if they get treated at pediatric cancer centers. These centers adopt cancer protocols designed for children, which may be helpful when treating diseases that are more classically found in children.
