A survivor on a mission
While Hamm was fortunate enough to have good medical insurance, her medical bills continued to pile on. This was when she realized that a majority of women could not afford to get decorative tattoos, which can cost hundreds of dollars. Hamm wanted Art from Scars to focus on breast cancer survivors in North Carolina, but almost immediately, she began to receive applications from women outside the state.
“We’ll first kick in my home state of North Carolina and as this nonprofit grows, we’ll expand to other states in the US. And ideally, even start assisting survivors of other forms of cancer who are living with scars from treatment” she said.
