BRCA Gene May Predict Drug Resistance in Ovarian Cancer, Study Finds

BRCA and its relationship with ovarian cancer resistance

One of the researchers is Dr. Katherine Nathanson, the director of genetics at the Basser Center for BRCA. She and a group of oncologists from the University of Pennsylvania studied the genetic profiles of 160 patients with BRCA-positive breast or ovarian tumors.

The group wanted to see if there were any characteristics unique to cancers expressing the BRCA mutation. They analyzed the genetic profiles of these patients to study a concept known as the “double-hit hypothesis”, which is a widely accepted theory in the field of cancer.
