Repurposing FDA Approved Drugs to Use for Ovarian Cancer

DrugPredict screens through thousands of drugs

The program DrugPredict is an ingenious development by QuanQiu Wang and Rong Xu, who were both also involved in this recent study involving indomethacin use for ovarian cancer. Dr. Xu is an associate professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, teaching biomedical informatics. They created the program to work by taking drug information and matching them with molecular interactions of human proteins in specific diseases. Drug profiles include ways they work in the body, effect in the clinical setting, as well as side effects patients may experience while taking them. DrugPredict searches through databases filled with currently approved drugs, chemicals, and compounds and looks at their disease-fighting characteristics. These include things like genetic factors that may influence how the drug works for particular patients. Its robust formula can screen over half a million chemicals in just a few minutes.
