Researchers were really excited about this finding because ovarian cancer is a very serious illness that has been lacking in new treatment modalities for many years. Despite lack of novel therapies, it remains one of the most deadly cancers today, killing an estimated 14,000 women every year in the United States. It's actually the fifth leading cause of cancer death in women.
