The Importance of Education During Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Celebrities and breast cancer

Celebrities such as Giuliana Rancic have mammogram screenings to thank for detecting their cancer. Rancic was 36 years old at the time of her diagnosis, younger than the national average which is 62. Rancic also had no family history of the disease, and likely wouldn’t have realized she had breast cancer until much later on had a doctor not recommended she get a mammogram as part of IVF treatment. Thankfully, the screening showed that Rancic was in the early stages of the disease, and she is now in remission.

Cynthia Nixon, best known for starring as Miranda Hobbes on Sex and the City, and country singer Sheryl Crow also learned of their diagnoses as a result of routine mammogram screenings. Nixon’s mother is a survivor of breast cancer, while Crow had no family history of the disease. In both cases, the women were thankfully able to take action right away and beat their cancer.
